Thailand has launched the ‘Amazing Thailand Metaverse: Amazing Durian’, a project that offers tourists new virtual travel experience to explore its famous durian orchards on metaverse.

The project, which was launched on Thursday, was intended specifically to attract a new segment of travelers to the kingdom, including durian aficionados, bitcoin fans, and high-disposable-income tourists.
Tourists can create their own avatar and use it to tour a virtual durian garden modeled after an actual durian plantation without using any VR equipment.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) announced in a statement that the ‘Amazing Thailand Metaverse: Amazing Durian’ project is the country’s prototype project that employs Web 3.0 technology and the application of digital assets to promote tourism and connect the virtual and real worlds.
The project also aimed to assist company operators once Thailand reopened, as well as develop technical capabilities in the tourism industry, according to the statement.
“Durian was chosen as the project’s pilot emphasis because of the fruit’s international reputation, as well as the fact that it is currently durian season in Thailand, with Chanthaburi, Rayong, and Si Sa Ket being well-known for their durian farming,” it stated.
The orchards involved in the project are now known for producing a wide range of Thai durian species, including the popular Monthong and Chanee varieties, as well as the durian glycemic index (GI), which will be available for tourists to explore in the virtual garden.
Meanwhile, TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn stated that the metaverse is a new era of the digital world, and that TAT has identified global trends and consumer behavior in accordance with this as a chance to boost the Thai tourism industry’s competitiveness.
