Oculus bring a new v35 update available for Quest headsets

Get your Oculus Quest or Quest 2 headset ready because the latest v35 software update is already available. This update brings many new features, including mixed reality and VR calls.

New v35 Update Available for Quest Headsets

Meta recently announced that the last software update for the Quest headsets will be in 2021. This update, dubbed v35, adds features that allow you to use your VR headset for more everyday tasks like making phone calls.

There are also numerous enhancements to the features that already existed in the Oculus Quest headsets. This update appears to be part of Meta’s goal of making the metaverse accessible to the general public.

What’s New in the Update

A new feature called mixed reality is included in the update, this feature offers a way to get players involved in VR gaming. You can now show a real-life image of yourself within the game instead of just the environment to create a more immersive experience.

But how will it all come together? To show yourself in the game, you’ll need to use your Quest headset and your iPhone camera. You’ll be able to see yourself inside the game thanks to the mobile mixed reality camera.

This will probably sound familiar to some of you, as the previous v29 update had a feature called Live Overlay that worked similarly. However, that feature only allows you to superimpose yourself in gameplay footage from an Oculus Quest perspective. Without any additional effort, mixed reality will allow you to see yourself in the game from the perspective of your iPhone.

Unfortunately, mixed reality is currently limited. This feature is only available if you have an iPhone XS or later model, as well as iOS 11.0 or higher installed. In addition, you’ll need to download the Oculus mobile app.

The good news is that you can use mixed reality without any additional equipment if you already have a modern iPhone and a Quest headset. There wasn’t even a green screen.

New Ways to Customize Your Office

One of the most appealing aspects of the metaverse is the ability to have your own virtual workspace where you can work and hold meetings, just like in a real office. Horizon Workrooms’ virtual offices will gain customization features with the new v35 update.

You’ll only be able to choose between different office environments and add posters or your company’s logo for the time being. Although it may not appear to be much at the moment, there are plans in the works to allow you to create your own office spaces in the future. You’ll be able to design an office space that reflects you or your business.
